MGM Hotel Fire Caused by Electrical Fault Final Report

The Clark County Fire Department's final report blames an electrical problem behind a wall in MGM Hotel delicatessen for the deadly November 21 blaze that killed 84 people. Insulation on two copper wires in an aluminum conduit deteriorated, allowing contact. A prior report reached the same conclusion.

Picketers Lift Blockade at Consol Headquarters

About 180 United Mine Workers halted access to Consol headquarters in Upper St. Clair Township for a day, keeping 530 salaried workers from their jobs. Picketers claimed to make their point after a company vehicle incident last Friday. A separate conviction in Westmoreland County branded a Mount Pleasant man the "hat bandit" for robbing 11 financial institutions. Eugene D. Miller, 53, faces up to 20 years and will be sentenced June 25.

An estimated 58 percent of party affiliated voters stayed away as 10 129 ballots were cast in primaries representing 42 percent of registered Republicans and Democrats. Latimore Township led with 64 9 percent turnout while McSherrystown Borough District 2 posted about 25 percent and Straban Township District 2 had 26 percent.

Adams County Reflects State Results In Three Appellate Races

Adams County voters largely mirrored state sentiment in nominating candidates for three state appellate courts. In the Supreme Court race Republicans backed William D. Hutchinson and James T. McDermott, Democrats favored McDermott over Hutchinson locally, with other contenders listed. In the Superior Court race both parties picked a slate led by Carl M.
