Light turnout marked Tuesday primary across Adams County

Voters shunned polls in Reading Township and neighboring precincts as turnout lagged well below typical primaries. Reading Township reported 57 Democrat and 109 Republican ballots with about 850 registered voters, and countywide turnout hovered near 43 percent. In Gettysburg’s third precinct turnout was described as terrible with only 17 of 60 voters showing up by 7 p.m. York Springs exceeded expectations with about 50 percent turnout. Cumberland and York counties faced similarly weak participation despite a Three Mile Island reactor referendum, while Mt Pleasant and other precincts saw minimal drops in enthusiasm. Election officials noted lack of competitive races as a key factor.

Board elected John Haar treasurer for 1982 83 and reviewed a 391 089 06 driver contract. A feasibility study on energy conservation and expanded classroom space prompted long term facility planning.
