Forty-two students escape injuries in bus car crash near Gettysburg
Forty-two Pontiac Michigan students and their bus driver were unhurt after a 1000 dollar bus car collision on Route 15 near Steinwehr Ave. The southbound bus, operated by Carter W. Marshall of Washington DC, tried to pass Daniel E. Harkness of Milan Michigan as he left a Poland service station, causing minor damage. Police cited driver Marshall for the incident. The students were en route back to Washington after touring the Gettysburg Battlefield.

Fire damages shed with antiques near Abbottstown
A 20 by 40 foot shed on the Ada Feeser property off Race Track Road west of Abbottstown burned at 7 48 Friday evening. Abbottstown firefighters aided by New Oxford and East Berlin units controlled the blaze in 20 minutes. Chief Wilmer Rodgers said investigators will determine the cause and extent of the damage. Items lost include old sleighs and a 1958 automobile. An electrical fire at Annunciation Parochial School McSherrystown caused minor damage at 3 30 Friday afternoon. Firemen from McSherrystown attended to ensure the fire was out.

Survey of Adams County housing needs draws few replies
Few residents responded in the first week of a low cost housing survey by the Adams County Housing Authority. Secretary Dr. Harold A. Dunkelberger called the effort disappointing as Robert M. Sheaffer reported scarce visits at the McSherrystown Firehall. The survey must show need to qualify for Revenue Sharing funds and continue through May 21 with extended hours and assistance for those without transport. Families earning under 4000 dollars annually are urged to file before May 31.

Three injured in car crash near Abbottstown
A teenage girl Susan Rue 15 and two youths Thomas Eller 20 and David Slaybaugh 21 were injured when a Chevrolet sedan left Country Club Road south of Abbottstown and crashed into trees. Rue was admitted in satisfactory condition with a fractured shoulder and contusions. Eller had a lacerated ring finger. Slaybaugh a lacerated thumb. The car, valued at 962 dollars, was a total loss. A Venezuelan airplane hijacked by four young leftists departed Merida International Airport for Mexico City after spending over four hours in negotiations. The turboprop, carrying 42 passengers and five crew, refueled and loaded supplies during the standoff.
