Gettysburg College sophomore Cindy Prendergast reached the EAIAW Division I singles finals at Elizabethtown and aimed to advance to the national championships at Trenton State. She defeated Pat Steinman of Rhode Island 6-1 6-2 and Lynn Miller 6-3 6-1, then beat Donna Weeks 5-7 6-2 6-2 before topping Beckie Donecker 6-2 6-2 to reach the final against Kim Schmidt Drew.

Gettysburg College finished fifth in the AIAW Division III women’s lacrosse championships at Penn State after overtime against Longwood. Terri Genovese Linda Luttrell and Cheryl McHale scored in OT while Genovese added early points. Gettysburg rued a 44 shot effort as Longwood goalie Janice Johnson made 21 saves.

Colonial Day Slated For Sixth Graders At New Oxford Field
The Conewago Valley School District will hold its first Sixth Grade Colonial Day on Tuesday from 9 15 a m to 1 30 p m at the New Oxford football field. About 206 students will compete in 3 to 5 events including sprints, distance runs, relays, throws and calisthenics with top five in each event earning ribbons. A rain date is Wednesday and community members are invited to attend any portion.

Koury Reaches NCAA Division II Golf Championship
Harrisburg’s Jim Koury, top Gettysburg College golfer for two seasons, earned a spot in the seventh annual NCAA Division II championships in Greensboro N C. He qualified after finishing third at the Middle Atlantic Conference championships in Hershey and led Gettysburg to the conference crown with a 3 over par 152 total for the event. Koury averaged 80 per round in 1981 and will join MAC peers Jeff Mawrer of Lebanon Valley and five others in the 72 hole tourney.
