Fire blamed on bathroom heater in Taneytown blaze

Maryland investigators probe an eight unit Taneytown apartment fire at 40 E Baltimore Street that killed 3 year old Jerry McDaniels and left 9 year old Jennifer McDaniels in critical condition. The fire caused 75000 dollars in damage as investigators study an electric heater found in a bathroom.

Gettysburg Borough Adopts Metered Parking Plan

Gettysburg Borough Council approves the first in a series of ordinances creating metered parking zones with time limits and raised fines. It deletes meters on North Washington Street and on the north side of West Stevens Street, plans a Residential Parking Permit system, and targets August for RPP implementation. Additional items include parking deck progress, public bathrooms, and a mural proposal rejected for now.

Monument site narrowed for Company K memory in Gettysburg

Gettysburg Borough Council hears that the Company K monument site remains undecided with two viable options, courthouse plaque plan approved by county commissioners, and the southwest quadrant of Lincoln Square proposed as fallback. The 105 Adams Countians who fought at Gettysburg will be honored with a seven foot by nine foot Vermont blue gray granite stone bearing their names.

Travelodge donated to Gettysburg College by local couple

Kermit and Renee Paxton of Country Club Lane donated the Gettysburg Travelodge at Carli sle Street and East Lincoln Avenue to Gettysburg College. Trustees approved preliminary arrangements to transfer the 31 unit motel, adjacent to campus, to become Paxton Hall after August closing.

Gettysburg School Board Approves 1990 91 Budget

The Gettysburg school board unanimously adopts a 1990 91 budget of 19 636 383 dollars, a 1.8 million increase, with a 7 mill property tax hike and 10 percent rise in occupational assessment. A 400 000 fund balance and 1.5 million surplus are planned, plus 600 000 earmarked for phased expenditures. The district expects state and federal subsidies to cover much of the rest and schedules a May 21 hearing before a final June vote. John Gregor named permanent senior high principal at 40 600 salary. Patrick Kelly moves to fill former post.
