An American seaman from the U S aircraft carrier Midway is missing in rough seas about 155 miles off Western Australia. He was last seen early Tuesday and a navy search including an air sweep covered several hundred square miles of the Indian Ocean.
Western North Carolina experienced a minor earthquake causing light damage but no injuries, officials reported.

Six people died when a military type aircraft crashed late this morning in Walkersville Maryland within Devilbliss Bridge Road near Glade Manor housing development. Emergency crews from northern Maryland, about 10 miles north of Frederick, responded to the scene. Police offered few details on the incident.
