Celebrities Dine for Leukemia Society at Third Annual Gala

Celebrities at the Stonehenge Restaurant joined the Third Annual Celebrity Waiters Luncheon to raise funds for the Leukemia Society. Action featured Jim Garrahy shaving his mustache during a table dance while Mark Purdy called Mike Schmidt's 500th home run, Jack Waybrant serving wine, Mary Woodward bracing for a pie, and Phil lip Topper pouring coffee. Rep. Ken Cole served as honorary maitre d and Larry Rhoten emceed.

Freed hostage Reed prays for mates left behind

Frank Reed, freed after 42 months in Lebanon, returns to the United States at Andrews Air Force Base. He prays that fellow captives and other hostages will soon gain freedom while greeting family and Barbara Bush. Reed thanks supporters and names relatives and other hostage families before heading to medical care.

Community Garden plots open in Gettysburg area

Gettysburg Borough offers 10 by 20 foot garden plots at Colt Park on John’s Avenue. Soil work and fertilization will be provided by the council. plowing will occur when weather allows. Register with Jean Simpson at 334-4189. fee is 4 dollars. Plots must be kept tidy and cleared at season end.

Monument search on Co. K figures at May 14 meeting

Adams County researchers study the 105 Co K members and 17 war dead to map a Gettysburg monument. The May 14 steering committee session at Gettysburg Lutheran Seminary will introduce honorary co-chairs Congressman Bill Goodling and State Rep. Ken Cole.

Littlestown Bicentennial slides overview at May 9 meeting

The Littlestown Bicentennial event was discussed at the May 9 GFWC Women's Community meeting in Littlestown to observe the 25th anniversary. The Converton Committee leads arrangements with Mary Snyder as chair and Laura Crouse as co chair. other members include Alverta Amspacker Malva Duttera and Dorothy Gentzler. Bicentennial costumes are encouraged if available.
