Memorial Day Plans Are Made By G Henry Roth
Preliminary plans for a Memorial Day service were outlined by Albert J. Lentz Post 202 of the American Legion for 11 a.m. May 25 at Veterans Plaza Evergreen Cemetery with possible joint participation from Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 15. The post also plans to attend the Gettysburg Memorial Day parade and to meet for parade formation. Gettysburg Area School Board named George P. White of Westminster Colorado as junior high principal at a special meeting. The $28,000 a year post begins July 1 after a unanimous vote. White was chosen from 136 applicants with 18 visiting and four interviewed. He replaces interim leaders Patrick Kelly and Carolyn Nunamaker, praised for their December 1 interim work. Labor camp shooting leaves one dead, suspect held
A 19 year old farm worker was killed by a single gunshot around 10 p.m. Monday at a labor camp along Camp Road near Arendtsville. A 25 year old farm worker was arrested by State Police in Gettysburg in connection with the killing, authorities said. The victim, Geraldo Lua, worked at the camp. the suspect, Torres Mendoza, is jailed with no bail pending further investigation. An autopsy was planned. funeral arrangements are being handled by Dugan Funeral Home.
