Fire Causes $1600 Damage to Farm House Near Wenksville Road
Two Upper Adams fire companies battled a morning blaze at a home tenanted by the Harald Baker family on the Robert Lait farm eight miles west of Bendersville. A short circuit in wiring sparked the fire in a partition between the kitchen and enclosed rear porch, Blackburn firefighters said, with $1200 to Lott's house and $400 to the Bakers' property, including a damaged electric washing machine motor. Fire crews spent about an hour on scene, removing weatherboarding and performing mop‑up operations.

Promise Of Food Stamp Fund Given Here By CEO

Sentencing Deferred in Burglaries in Adams County
Judge Joan A. MacPhail deferred sentencing for two men found guilty of burglary and larceny in Adams County. Gary L. Hamaker of York faces sentencing June 19 for fraud at a focal motel and burglary at Bargaintown USA. Kenneth B. Powell of Belleville R1 is to be sentenced May 8 for burglary and larceny of three diamond rings and cash from the Luthers’ Gettysburg home. Hamaker admitted staying at the College Motel and leaving without paying. Markley, Hamaker’s brother-in-law, pled guilty earlier to burglary and larceny. Witnesses linked Markley to the January 2 break-in at Bargaintown USA.
