Forty years ago today in 1942 a 24 inch snowstorm swept Gettysburg with record 24 hour fall. Weather observer Henry Stewart logged the big total on Baltimore Street as roads iced and roofs collapsed at Littlestown Foundry. State police fielded stranded motorists while trains ran late and Palm Sunday services were canceled.
