In Streban Township, Pegsy Bear runs a home day care for up to 12 children without a license, drawing support from parents who value her care. State DPW officials say two staff and state registration are required, and inspectors found no license or registration, with a plan to bring her facility into compliance within 30 days.
Adams County officials say a sexual incident at Adams County Prison underscores the need for a dedicated women’s facility. Commissioner Catherine W. Cowan notes plans to apply for funds for a female-prison construction. Acting Warden Bernard Yannetti confirms an incident possibly involving sexual contact and halts coed activities pending a written report reviewed by the prison board. The board consists of commissioners, Judge John Kuhn, Sheriff Bernard Miller. Prison population averages 129 with up to 12 women.
Eisenhower Elementary School stages its annual fine arts production titled E T Eisenhower Trek with scenes by sixth grade teachers Robert Brown and Therese Prevoznik and a space dream narrative ending in the value of school. Participants include Christopher Myers Kristina Wilson Anne Cahoon Janice Glass Loring Redding and Garon Taylor Tyree with a pit band led by William Foreman Tom Thieme Roger Parsels Jill Marzoli Kenneth y Freda Partchey and Neil Temple assisted by Maple Avenue Middle School staff.
Winter work resumed on the 25 million US Route 15 project after a cold spell halted progress. Greg Penny of PennDOT outlined plans to rehabilitate southbound lanes, patch sections, repair guardrails, and replace bridge decks at Middle Creek, Marsh Creek, Rock Creek and Hanover Street, with the work starting at the railroad bridge north of Route 30.
