Warner Hospital directors at a regular meeting authorized the building and grounds committee to renew water lines in the original 1920s building and to assess steam and condensation lines in the Musselman Annex from the 1940s. They will hire a steam engineer to survey and advise on remedies.
Martha M Moore 92 a Fairfield native died Thursday at Lee County Nursing Home Dixon Illinois She lived in Fairfield until 1952 then moved to Ashton to live with sister Ada Wagner She worked 15 years at Fairfield Post Office and was connected to Zion Lutheran Church later joining Presbyterian Church of Ashton She is survived by sister Ruth Moore two nephews and two nieces with funeral Saturday in Ashton and burial in the A M Moore lot at Ashton cemetery
The Orrtanna Methodist Church plans a reception for the new pastor Rev. Max B. Cook and his wife after the 11:30 a.m. service on Sunday. The Women's Society of Christian Service will host a covered dish luncheon in the church hall. Members and friends are invited to attend and bring a covered dish.
Two Chamber of Commerce committees are scheduled to meet Tuesday at noon. The industrial committee chaired by John J. Reimer will gather at the Gettysburg Hotel, while the membership and finance committee chaired by George Grawe will meet at the Varsity Diner.

Three persons injured Thursday at 5 40 PM when a car and a truck collided at Routes 34 and 234 north of Hampton. Dam age totaled 800. Charles S Moxley 41 Hanover drove south on Manover Carlisle Rd and Robert W Voltz 31 Highland Ave was entering Route 94 from Biglerville East Berlin Rd. Voltz admitted to Warner Hospital with left shoulder and chest injuries. Joy Neidig 16 Dillsburg treated for contusions and abrasions. Moxley taken to Hanover Hospital for head and leg lacerations.
Homemakers of America and Future Farmers of America units held a parents night banquet at Gettysburg High School. Diana Valentine, Miss Orrianna R 1, received the Betty Crocker Homemaker of Tomorrow award and an Agricultural Foundation Award. Sandy Reed earned Crisco Co trophy for high citizenship and service in home economics and FHA. George Glenn named an honorary member.
Dr. Donald R. Heiges president of the Lutheran Seminary has been named chairman of the National Lutheran Church's Division of College and University Work. He succeeds Dr. Sidney A. Rand of Minneapolis who had served three years as executive director of the Lutheran board of college education.
Gettysburg Business and Professional Women’s Club officers and guests gathered at the YWCA Thursday for a dinner. Edith Bushman presided, Donald M. Swope outlined centennial plans, Willis Conover led program, Edward Blettner showed 75th anniversary films, and Elizabeth Hull, a Gettysburg High School senior, was named Girl of the Month.
Gettysburg AAUW branch hosts a panel on who we are in Adams County now in community development at 8 pm in the YWCA. Panelists include F Stanley Hoffman Rev Robert A MacAskill Mrs G Donald Wickerham and Frank Zettle. Mrs William M Lott presides at a business meeting after the panel with Miss Ann Faber reporting. Refreshments by hostess committee led by Mrs J VanCleve Lott.
Adams County apple blossom queen contest will be held March 30 in the Biglerville High School auditorium. Ruth Trostle announced after a committee meeting that at least nine local girls are expected to compete. A grooming session for contestants is scheduled March 26 at 7 39 o'clock with Miss Brenda Bean, current county and state apple blossom queen, leading.

Funeral services for William C. Breighner, 60, who died at his home in Mummasburgh Tuesday night, were conducted at 10 this morning at Bender Funeral Home. The Rev. Henry W. Sternat officiated. Burial followed at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens with pallbearers George White Chester Shue Raymond Guise Floyd Knipple Frank Miller and Lester Shrytiger.
Mrs. Delta Edwards, 34, steered a runaway school bus down a steep ramp across Van Brant Boulevard to a stop with 80 children aboard. Only she and three kids were injured, suffering cuts and bruises as the bus struck a guard rail and curb. Police praised her actions amid reports of a brake-fluid leak from a damaged hydraulic line.
The 62 voice Gettysburg College Choir directed by Prof. Parker Waynild performs a concert in Christ Chapel on Friday March 29 at 8 15 p m. The program mirrors the European tour set list as the choir has been invited to perform at the Lutheran World Assembly in Finland next summer with further stops in ten countries.
Mrs. Fannie Salome McCleaf 93 of Fairfield died Tuesday morning at home. Funeral services were held Thursday at 2 pm at Zion Lutheran Church Fairfield with Rev Otto Kroeger and Carl Franklin officiating. Interment followed at Fairfield Union Cemetery. Pallbearers included Richard White John White Russell McCleaf Tr William McCleaf John McCleafs and Fred Herring. The McCleaf store operated in Fairfield for years. Wilson Furors Home directed arrangements.
The Business and Professional Women's Club at the YWCA discussed the Battle of Gettysburg anniversaries the 100th and 75th in 1938 with plans for observance July 14. Atty Donald M Swope spoke on the commemorations and a film from the 1938 program was shown by Edward H Blettner. The program featured the Girl of the Month Elizabeth Hull and members displayed hobby items from quilts to hand dipped candles. President Edith Bushman urged triplicate annual reports and announced a continuation on page 3.
Generous gifts from Gen Eisenhower and the Gettysburg Lions lead a new donation list to the American Field Service committee in Gettysburg. Other contributors include the Gettysburg Exchange Club and local groups, boosting the total to 1517.82 to sponsor one foreign student next year with a goal of two for foreign students and one local student abroad. Donations continue to be received by treasurer James R Feather.
Dr. Charles Glatfelter dean of Gettysburg College will lecture on York County in the Civil War at the York County Day School next Thursday.
Joseph Kane a 54 year old Fairfield man cut the ring finger of his left hand on steel while working at Landis Tool Co Waynesboro Wednesday morning. After emergency treatment at Waynesboro Hospital he was released the same day.
Gettysburg College announces senior Jan K Ludwig of New Cumberland has been awarded two top fellowships the Woodrow Wilson first year fellowship and a Danforth Graduate Fellowship from the Danforth Foundation in St Louis Ludwig is a philosophy major and a Phi Beta Kappa dean s list student He is among 1 475 Woodrow Wilson fellows and one of 104 college seniors receiving Danforth honors H Lane Kneedler of Lansdale also earns honorable mention for the Woodrow Wilson award
York Springs Elementary School will stage its second annual Science Fair Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 o'clock. The event follows last year’s success as the county’s only elementary science fair and draws praise from York Springs and the PTA. Judges include Paul S. Burkholder Eisenhower Elementary School, C William Settle Biglerville Elementary School, and D Glenn Shugo New Oxford Elementary School. They begin judging Tuesday afternoon at 4 o'clock.
Russell Schwartz announces four area chairmen for the cancer drive opening in Adams County on April 5. Harold E. Day leads the Highland Liberty Hamilton area. Mrs. Earl Deily oversees East Berlin Reading Hamilton Berwick Townships. Luther M. Lady covers Biglerville Franklin Menallen Butler Townships. Junior Women’s Club of Littlestown Germany and Union Townships also involved.
At Warner Hospital a makeup polio vaccination event drew 1100 men women and children after 300 doses were found remaining from the Type I campaign. Dr Harrison F Harbach and the Adams County Medical Society arranged extra supplies as crowds lined up, with 30 700 county residents already vaccinated and 4000 at Hanover.
Hundreds of Brownies and Girl Scouts from Apple Valley District gather at Gettysburg Junior High School auditorium for the annual Juliette Low rally from 10 a.m. to noon. Sarah Moore, a Senior Girl Scout from York Springs, was noted among Adams County participants.
Emile Bustani 56 a leading Middle East industrialist and parliament member perished when his private twin engine plane crashed off Beirut amid a storm. Pilot John Ogilvie and Lebanese Nimer Toukan and Marwan Khartabi also died. Bustani sought an Arab economic union with the West.
A nationwide team of management consultants urged U S apple growers to unite into a single trade association to optimize promotion and research funding. The plan, based on an eight month Booz Allen Hamilton study for the National Apple Institute, aims to consolidate voice while preserving state and regional groups.
Three candidates filed for the two Republican nominations for councilman in Gettysburg Third Ward. Petitions were submitted by Third Ward Councilman Robert R. McCoy Rebecca Zinn Schwenk and William A Lentz. Other filings include incumbents Naugle and Smith for First and Second Wards.
Miss Donna J. Gilbert of Biglerville has been initiated into Alpha Xi Delta at Gettysburg College. A Biglerville High School graduate, she is listed as a junior at the college.
