LEA Plans Sunday Vote On Ratified Contract

Littlestown Education Association members will meet Sunday at 7 30 p m in LEA headquarters to decide on ratifying a contract proposal agreed Thursday by the LEA and Littlestown Area School Board. About 40 of 69 district teachers are eligible to vote.

Emmitsburg to Honor Two Local Doctors at Community Day

Emmitsburg will honor Dr William R Cadle and Dr George L Morningstar at the first annual Community Day next Wednesday. A 1 PM program at the post office building includes plaques for the doctors and their wives, a parade, concerts, games and refreshments sponsored by the Council of Churches.

Couple Krafts face tampering charge over sale bills

Lawrence and Joann Kraft of Dillsburg posted nominal bail after a hearing before Magistrate C. Edgar King on a charge of tampering with public records. The case stems from removal of public sale notices posted by the sheriff after an assumpsit suit by Wolf Fuel Oil York Springs for $526. The couple waived a hearing and will appear in Adams County Court.

Treher Retires as Park Officer After 59 Years Service

Thomas R. Treher 59 of Althoff House near Devil's Den retires from the local National Park Office after a long career starting as a motorcycle patrolman in 1996 and rising to administrative officer. A retirement banquet at the Holiday Inn honored his service with gifts including a 65 pound foot stool carved from a Civil War era oak. He recalled Navy radioman duty on the USS Appalachian and the Longstreet memorial groundbreaking as memorable moments.

Five Highway Mishaps Leave No Injuries

Five traffic accidents on state highways left no injuries. Damages totaled 1200 dollars from a Route 34 collision north of here at 11 30 Friday morning involving Allen L Swisher and Clair W Guise. Ruth escaped injury when his Route 116 car left the road into Rock Creek in Strahan Two. Police also probed two hit and run incidents on LR 01058 near Bonneauville Friday.

Carl Kane Rites Held on Friday

Funeral services for Carl W. Kane a former Adams County Democratic chairman and local fruit grower were held Friday morning. The Mass of the Resurrection took place at St Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church Buchanan Valley with interment in the church cemetery. Pallbearers included Jeff Kane Wally Kane Edgar McDonnell William Kane and William Snyder. Timothy Kane and William Martin served as honorary pallbearers.

Cancer Drive Tops One Goal in Adams County

Adams County American Cancer Society unit surpassed its local goal in the American Cancer Crusade with $27 041 01 raised by county solicitors. The county reached 26 500 but failed to meet the Pennsylvania Division target of 30 900. Captains across townships reported numerous individual donations totaling the countywide sum.

Ehrlichman Threatens to Trip Up Dean Testimony

John Ehrlichman says he has evidence to undermine John Dean's sworn testimony in the Watergate case. He claims Dean aims to implicate President Nixon to escape criminal charges and says Dean knew about the cover-up since September and implicates Haldeman as well. Hospital honors first pension recipients in retirement plan

Warner Hospital presented pension checks to Dorothy Orner and Mary Semler, the first retirees under a hospital funded plan begun July 7, 1972. The plan is contributory, funded by the hospital, and integrated with Social Security to provide 50 to 60 percent of the last five years' average salary for a 65 year old with 25 years of service.

Three Accidents In Borough Reported By Police

Borough police investigated three minor accidents Friday. Elissa Ann Weaver reported a collision on Baltimore Street with a station wagon, causing $25 in damage to her Cadillac. William E. Jordan struck Lynn Hockensmith’s wagon on W High Street, damage totals $400. John S. Linn’s car entered Lincoln Square and hit James Leach’s car with damages totaling $175.

Newer Plan In Oxford Two Faces Opposition At Meeting

A group of 21 residents opposed Oxford Township Phase One sewer plans to connect with the New Oxford borough treatment plant. The 1,189,840 project by Sacra Associates would install three miles of interceptors in Irishtown and Mt Misery, with an estimated $300 per family yearly cost. The board plans to issue a bond for completion by 1976, while residents seek lower costs and state ENR requirements. The meeting had no official spokesman.

Rec Program Will Close For Holiday In Gettysburg

Gettysburg's entire Recreation program will close next Wednesday for a holiday. Playground and tot lot programs at Recreation Park will be off the whole week due to the firemen's festival. Other playgrounds remain open except Wednesday. most evening sports continue at Recreation Park. The week’s attendance totaled 1316 across facilities. Ike playground featured crafts and leatherwork with Cathy Harner and Craig Breighner named champions.
