The 88 degree high at the Eisenhower National Historic Site in Gettysburg topped a low of 58 with 87 degrees at 5 p.m. No precipitation in 24 hours. Partly cloudy warm and humid with mid 60s overnight. Light variable winds today tonight and Tuesday. Highs near 80 each day with a 60 percent chance of rain today.

Adams Electric Co operative members voted 3 to 1 to invest in SCATCOM Inc a telecom firm pursuing cable TV franchises in Adams County and three neighboring counties. The meeting elected two new directors David Cowan and John A Looser and narrowly defeated an age limit for board members. Overman credited SCATCOM with growth potential while stressing union of coaxial cable usage for load control to cut energy costs.
The Carroll Valley Borough Council granted final approval at a special session for a ten year SCATCOM franchise to develop a cable TV system. The measure allows a five year bond waiver and three percent gross receipts fee deferral until after year two, with council rate oversight and a renewal option.
Thousands of Masons and affiliated youth and women’s groups marched in Gettysburg for the Patriotic Pilgrimage honoring George Washington’s birth and Pennsylvania’s founding.
