Supreme Court Told NPS Directed Tower Move to Stonehenge Site
The National Park Service allegedly directed Thomas R. Ottenstein to place a 307 ft observation tower behind the Stonehenge site to fit a commercial development Master Plan. Attorney Jerome Gerber said Ottenstein had purchased multiple sites and that the Park Service even offered a land access right of way to move from Colt Park to the current location. The Pennsylvania Supreme Court, in Philadelphia, considered the state's appeal from lower courts that favored the tower, with Justices noting they would not be bound by a national mistake and that the case involved questions of law and evidence rather than the land exchange.

Board Raises Graduation Credits at New Oxford High
Conewago Valley School directors last night boosted graduation credits to 20 for New Oxford High School seniors. Under the new plan a minimum of four 12th grade credits is required to graduate and 15 credits are needed to be assigned to 12th grade. The district will run summer school starting Monday with about 40 students enrolled in senior or junior high English or math.

Route 34 Crash Attracts Little Injury Report
Two autos collided at the Route 34 and Table Rock Road intersection, a half mile north of town, at 3 30 Wednesday afternoon. Virginia Pitzer, 59, Aspers, turned left onto Table Rock Road and entered the path of Felix Fillega, 25, Breezewood Lodge Aspers, northbound. Pitzer’s 1969 Oldsmobile sustained 600 in damage, Fillega’s 1967 Pontiac 300. A tractor trailer dropped a 15 inch steel piece causing 200 damage to a following truck on Route 30 four miles west at 5 30 Wednesday morning.

Theron W. Spangler Dies At 69 Former Littlestown Bank Leader
Theron W. Spangler 69 longtime Littlestown National Bank executive died Wednesday night at Harrisburg Hospital after a period of poor health. A 1921 employee who rose to president in 1969 he began as bookkeeper and janitor earning 25 a month. He was Littlestown Citizen of the Year in 1967 and served on town boards and church roles while remaining a bank director after retirement.
