Arendtsville Firemen Win Here Sunday Carnival Victory
Six county fire companies battled in water fights as spectators soaked in the week long firemen carnival. Arendtsville led by Captain Don Hartzel won overall including spray football and hook up contests, with Biglerville Littlestown Abbottstown taking other event wins. The carnival opened with wreath laying at the Gettysburg monument and concludes with the Gettysburg Fire Queen pageant at 6 30 this evening.

Charles A. MacMeekin of Village Drive Gettysburg received the Jules Schick Award at the Blinded Veterans Association of Pennsylvania Inc annual convention. Three Local Auto Crashes Reported With $1 800 Loss
Gettysburg police estimated $1 800 in damage from three weekend auto accidents. Janice Halles Warner of Provo Utah was injured in a rear end collision at York Street. The other crashes involved Thomas Ward Provo and Francisco Alvarado Hanover, with damage to Ward’s auto and Alvarado’s vehicle. A second collision at Lincoln Avenue and Carlisle Street caused about $600 damage to two cars. Steven Pensinger Hardwick Massachusetts escaped injury after skidding into guardrails on Breckenridge Street. A wallet was reported stolen from Mary Braun Hyattsville Maryland at Gettysburg College Campus. Details were unavailable.

A collision on RS 30 in front of High's Store near here at 11 50 Saturday evening left David L Hewitt 36 of 308 Baltimore St with multiple injuries and his Chevrolet El Camino damaged. Donald L Plank 16 Gettysburg R 9 and Darrell J Little 16 Gettysburg R 9 suffered knee and left leg injuries. all were hospitalized. Firemen aided at the scene as Hewitt’s truck struck an embankment while Plank’s wagon hit a mailbox and ended in a field. Local police attributed the crash to a westbound truck colliding with an eastbound station wagon.

Man Escapes In Car Crash East Berlin Man
An East Berlin man, Clyde D. Weaver, escaped injury after a right rear tire blew on Rt 39 near Hampton in Reading Two, causing a crash into a bank and a subsequent fire extinguished by Hampton Fire Co. The 1969 Caprice was left at the scene with minor damage. A Dodge van stolen from Carlisle area was recovered nearby. Carlisle police investigate.

Liza Joanna McGough, 17, daughter of Mr and Mrs Oscar Mehring of Gettysburg, was chosen Dairy Princess at Biglerville High School after four contestants. A man convicted of fatally shooting his estranged wife in her classroom in front of 29 children was sentenced to life in prison with a recommendation of 10 years. The judge denounced the crime as among the most vicious she had seen in two years on the bench.

Eight Injured In Two Car Crash On Rt 30
Eight people were hurt in a two car collision on Route 30 near New Oxford at 9 11 Saturday morning. Mrs Georgedanna Kotzman 418 York driver of one car was in serious condition at York Hospital ICU. Wayne Bollinger 23 Hanover R2 driver of the other car was in satisfactory condition at Hanover Hospital. Bollingers father Robert 65 in fair condition with internal injuries. Other Bollinger family members in satisfactory condition included Robert Bolinger s wife Katherine 68 Wayne s mother with back injuries and Karen Bollinger sister in law with multiple injuries and her daughter Michelle 6 head injuries. Michelle s father David Bollinger 29 treated and released. Mrs Kolzman s four month old son Josh the lone passenger was treated and released from Hanover Hospital. All injuries were transported by Hanover New Oxford Bonneauville Gettysburg East Berlin Fire Co ambulances.

Driver Hurt In Rt. 15 Crash Near York Springs
Paul Hegmenowski, 17, of Dillsburg, was listed in satisfactory condition at Holy Spirit Hospital Camp Hill after his 1970 AMC Gremlin plunged 25 feet into Bermudian Creek off Route 15 south of York Springs at 12 40 this morning. He was rescued by York Springs firemen and taken to Warner Hospital, then transferred back to Holy Spirit. Police say the northbound car swerved onto the median, knocked down a PennDOT guard post, vaulted a bank and struck the creek. The car sustained about 31 000 in value with 300 in guard-rail damage.
