Temperatures ranged from 47 to 78 degrees with a 5 p.m. Thursday low and a high near 78. Partly sunny conditions forecast Friday through Saturday with mild nights. Community notes cover a pastor installation at Bethel Mennonite Church, recreation programs at Bonneauville, an alumni banquet, and local gallery exhibit openings.
The Adams County senior centers move toward autonomy with a two phase operation plan submitted by Lutheran Social Service. The plan totals 90000 for 1982 83 and allocates funds for meals while restructuring center management to a shared 35 hour week director and 30 hour per week assistant with weekly center visits.
Five Gettysburg area stations report regular gas averaging 1.24 while unleaded and premium run 1.31 and 1.40 respectively. Regular cost rose about nine to ten cents from April, with some stations showing new highs near 1.25 and occasional self serve prices at 1.21. Station managers blame higher distributor costs and allocation systems, predicting further climbs though some see leveling off.
Gettysburg plans a 20 000 visitor Patriotic Pilgrimage parade sponsored by the Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of Pennsylvania. Traffic detours will reroute north south east and westbound flows around Musselman Stadium and Gettysburg College. Police fire and Native and Cumberland Township officers will man the event with about 30 full time and auxiliary personnel.
The Department of Aging publishes a proposed amendment to the State Plan on Aging, effective through 1983, with new goals on family support, long term care facilities, and community placement. Adams County Office for Aging Executive Director Sue Yenchko notes a shift toward frail and less able seniors and the development of an operational housing manual and autonomous senior centers.
Emmitsburg citizen attorney Gerald M. Richman will answer questions about the state Board of Education hearing on July 8 in Baltimore deciding Emmitsburg Middle School’s fate. ECC volunteers tour the middle school Friday, review affidavits, and discuss fundraising from a Mount St. Mary’s College dance that netted over $1,000 for the ECC Legal Fund.
