World briefs report doctors treating Pope John Paul II say a large blood transfusion given during an assassination attempt may have contributed to a cytomegalovirus infection. The pontiff’s medical team notes the virus is common among some transplant and transfusion patients.
Federal judge will decide Friday whether to dismiss a motion demanding the government turn over terrorist Alfredo Mendez. His wife says he is being held from family contact while serving a 73 year sentence. Mendez says he is not blocked from contacting relatives and he is satisfied with his legal representation.
The Pennsylvania Health Department compiled 159000 birth certificates from 1979 and found names tied to places like Brooklyn Kansas Nigeria and Argentina. A girl named Pepsi and a boy named Cola illustrate the curiosity, with Michael the top boy name at 4032 and Jennifer the top girl name at 2977.
