Ten horse drawn wagons travel from Goshun Virginia toward Valley Forge for the 1982 reenactment. The group led by Albert Nicely includes about 100 participants from seventeen states. They plan a four week, 375 mile trip with stops near Gettysburg and Barlo Knoll Stables. Public viewing is welcome with field restrictions.
Fairfield Borough Council reviews a Nassaux-Hemsley plan to repave secondary streets not including Route 116. Most streets are in good shape but need patching and drainage checks before a one inch asphalt layer. The project aims for summer completion with a loan and state fuel tax funds.
Emmitsburg Maryland considers a $352,990 spending proposal for 1982-83 with projected revenues at $357,000 and a potential $4,800 surplus. No tax increase is planned though charges for garbage, water and sewer services would rise to fund long overdue maintenance.
The Conewago Valley School District adopted a 1982 83 budget of 6 301 264 with no increases to real estate or occupation taxes. The plan retains a 62 mill real estate rate and an 18 percent occupation tax. The board also funded a 75 000 building reserve, reappointed Hartman and Hartman as solicitors, Frank Ruth as auditors, and authorized renting church space for kindergarten.
Engineers plan to file a preliminary construction plan with the Department of Environmental Resources by month end for a 4.5 million dollar borough wide sewer expansion. The project adds two pumping stations a new control building and a sludge storage garage and could begin in May next year with completion by December.
The Cumberland Township Board of Supervisors approved preliminary plans for an AMP plant to be built in the township. Edward Kost said completion is expected in under two years with about 200 local hires and training schools in the area. Construction could start this fall and finish about 16 months later. The facility will be low key and partly obscured by trees, located 275 feet from the road and 250 feet from the nearest house. The board also approved a 10 year non exclusive SCATCOM Inc cable TV agreement and accepted a resignation from the Agricultural Area Advisory Committee, appointing Melvin R Durboraw in his place.
