The Littlestown School Board, amid protest from resident Robert Quinn, raises the minimum taxable salary for the occupational privilege tax from 1 000 to 1 800 a year and tentatively approves the tax to fund the 1977 78 budget. Higher food and fuel prices push May inflation higher
Government data show consumer prices rose six tenths of a percent in May, the fifth straight month of large increases. Food costs led gains with ground coffee up 10.3 percent and instant coffee up 7 percent, while wholesale coffee fell but not yet at retail. The May CPI implied a 7.2 percent annual rate, still above the six percent underlying target, with 1976 comparisons showing notable year-to-year rises.

Sullivan Is Fined And Placed On Probation In Sheriff Bid
Daniel L. Sullivan, 38, of New Oxford R1, candidate for the Republican sheriff nomination, received a one year suspended sentence and a $200 fine from Adams County Court after a January 26 jury conviction on hindering apprehension and simple assault of a New Oxford police officer. The judge ordered the fine paid in installments over a year and Sullivan released on good behavior with probation to begin in 30 days. The jury of seven women and five men convicted Sullivan on January 20 after a prior postponement. Former officer James A. Redding testified Sullivan deployed mace during the attempted arrest of Sullivan’s son Gregory near Oxford Two Sullivan, who attempted to unseat Sheriff Bernard V. Miller, had lost in the May party primaries.

Fifth graders tested students from grades three to six on emergency survival. Results show 93 percent aware of hazards using a telephone in a storm and 41 percent knowledgeable about dangers of watching TV or sheltering under a tree during a storm. A clothes dryer malfunction caused a blaze at Ronald Williams 238 E Middle St mid afternoon Monday. Firemen confined the fire to the dryer and removed it. the dryer sustained 3400 damage and clothing inside 163 lost. First Assistant Fire Chief Robert Plank said jammed clothes likely caused ignition. Williams discovered the fire in the laundry room.

Fire department seeks missing tarp from new engine
Gettysburg Fire Department crews on a test run lost a black eight by twelve foot tarp from the hose deck of their Seagraves engine near Rock Creek Bridge on Friday evening. Fire Chief Gerald Whites and crew were unaware of the loss and returned to the engine house. Anyone who finds the tarp is asked to return it to the fire house.

Lori Kane a 17 year old Fairfield girl was injured in a two car crash on Bull Frog Road three miles southeast of Fairfield at 3 30 p m Monday. Her car rolled after leaving the wet highway and she was taken to Harrisburg Hospital after initial treatment at Warner Hospital. Loretta McGlaughlin driver of the southbound car suffered shock.
