The US Air Force tracking station on Mahe Island extends its lease to 1990. Seychelles may terminate on one year notice from June 29, 1986. Annual rent rises to 2.5 million dollars from 600 thousand.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission and Rockwell International’s power tool division announce a recall of about 70,000 Mode 8 motorized bench saws catalog No. 31-205 made before November 1980. Owners are urged not to use the saws until the switch is replaced.
State DU BOIS Riverside Markets employees approve a tentative contract ending a strike at 48 stores in Pennsylvania and Ohio. Riverside President Ray Heath says supermarkets will reopen Tuesday after agreement with United Food Handlers Local 240. The union represents about 3200 clerks warehouse workers truck drivers and maintenance crews.
The Adams County area sees more motorcycle use and injuries. State police reports show 12 accidents with 16 injuries from April 1 to June 15, 1980, versus 13 accidents and 15 injuries in the same period in 1980. Local officials attribute many crashes to driver negligence and speed.
Carroll Valley Borough Council plans a tax ordinance amendment to exempt Maryland residents who work in the borough from paying its earned income tax. The change aims to prevent double taxation as Maryland tax rates exceed 2 percent for higher incomes. The council also adjusted golf course tax terms and discussed rates for Ski Liberty operators.
