The Adams County court rejected a petition questioning jurisdiction in a dispute over a new county courthouse on the Cumberland Two site. Eight taxpayers pressed the issue. the judge said plans need not be shown before the Thursday evidentiary hearing.

Elmer W. Warren of Fairfield R 1 announced his resignation from all affiliations with Charnita Inc and its subsidiaries. Warren, who has led Charnita since October 1972 after Market Realty Corp acquired its stock, will serve as a special consultant if needed and resigns from the board of directors. He had joined as vice president in June 1966 and became executive vice president under founder Charles G. Rist.
Adams County Court sentenced Donald R. Andrews of Gettysburg to 60 days in jail plus a 200 dollar fine and costs after a guilty plea to driving while under the influence. Other defendants pled guilty to DUI with probation, fines, and required alcohol information courses. Madeline Swartz received one day probation and a 250 dollar fine after prior DUI conviction. State police assisted in apprehending Kenneth L. Dick near Greenstone after a collision.
Tickets go on sale for Kiddies Night at the Gettysburg Fire Department carnival with five for $1. Purchases available at Sixens Furniture Lincoln Square Swope’s Heflin Arco Weishaar’s and Charlie’s Texas Lunch until noon July 3. After that full fare applies on rides. Garlach notes special tickets benefit young riders for Kiddies Night and the Princess and Prince of the fire company will be chosen that night. Cumberland supervisors and the township planning commission held a public hearing at James Gettys Elementary as they unveiled a new subdivision and land development ordinance. The measure outlines submission steps from sketch to final plan, recording deadlines, and requires final plans to be prepared by a registered surveyor or engineer with defined design standards.

Adams County Tuesday received 68743 dollars as its share of the first half year liquid fuel taxes. Commissioner Clerk George Stock expects a second payment in December. Funds are split with towns and townships and county expenses such as bridge work. 40000 dollars were placed on certificates to earn interest. Jacob G. Appler 59 of Gettysburg died Tuesday at Hershey Medical Center after eight days of illness. A native of Adams County and former Adams County treasurer, he served as acting Gettysburg postmaster 1958 1960 and held many local offices. He was a Seabee veteran and member of Masons Legion and VFW posts. Surviving wife Jane Crouse a son Douglas and a daughter Shelley plus siblings. Funeral Friday 2 pm Monahan Funeral Home with Masonic services that evening. Donations to Heart of Cancer Fund.
Dr Joseph Kerwin reported Skylab 1 crew Charles Conrad Jr Paull Weitz are in excellent condition after 23 day mission. He said the score is man 3 space 0 but the game isn’t over and awaits home results. Conference relayed via radio and televised to mission control.
Adams County Community Action Agency confirms continuation of programs with a six month $20,000 grant from the Office of Economic Opportunity, expiring October 31, while a possibility of additional Congressional funding remains. Lutheran Social Services York office notes Day Care operates under 1972-73 budgets and will receive a four month $29,008 interim grant from the Department of Public Welfare.
Gettysburg College has received a 6500 grant from the Research Corporation under its Cottrell College Science Grants Program. The grant supports academic natural science research at private undergraduate institutions and funds related science programs and administration. The foundation, established in 1912 by Frederick Gardner Cottrell, grants over 3 million annually to science and public health nutrition efforts.
Petition signatures exceed 3 300 from Adams County taxpayers led by Mamie D. Eisenhower. The Adams County Women’s Club and civic groups urge the County Court to retain the courthouse at its present Gettysburg location, citing it as a functioning part of the judicial process.

State police hunt the operator of a hit and run car that hopped three lawns along Route 140 near Littlestown just after 1 AM. The unidentified northbound vehicle knocked down two pine trees on Harold Harner’s lawn before fleeing toward Littlestown. Another minor accident occurred on Legislative Route 01002 near Mummasburg at 2 15 AM.
