Rains Drive Graduation Indoors At Biglerville

Biglerville High School held its 30th annual commencement indoors as rain disrupted outdoor ceremonies. Speakers urged graduates to pursue hope and dreams, noting the importance of family, teachers, and friends. Reverend Jerome Guss gave the invocation and benediction. his son Cedric was among the graduates.

New Patio Opens at Luth Home Dedication Draws Donors

A new rear patio at the Lutheran Home was formally opened Friday with a ribbon cutting by resident Blanche Winand. Administrator Roy J. Dil announced plans for flower boxes and landscaping, thanking donors Beatrice Pfeffer Paul and Mrs. Nelle Staub Mrs Esther Brake and the Wagner and Johnson families plus the Auxiliary. Rev Donald Olson led a dedicatory prayer and a reception followed with strawberries and ice cream.

Start Summer Work Program For Youths

About 248 youths aged 14 to 20 will start the Summer Youth Program Monday. Ronald Baltzley and Mary say registrations reach 268. 60 employers provide 240 jobs from clerical to maintenance. Schools in Biglerville, McSherrystown, and Gettysburg join others to offer positions and guidance for job readiness.

Adams County Wins Federal Incentives for Child Support

Adams County reports 16 596 in child collections and 54 135 in federal incentive payments from Aug 1 1974 to Aug 31 1976 as part of Pennsylvania's Child Support Enforcement Program. Welfare Secretary Beal notes incentives total over eight million across counties to boost collections and staffing. Court ordered collections rose from 8.5 million in early 1975 to 17.3 million in early 1976.

Y C Corps To Begin June 26 At Gettysburg Park

Forty youths from the Youth Conservation Corps will live and work this summer at Gettysburg National Military Park starting June 26. Projects include planting historic vegetable gardens, building fencing, surveys, trail work, historic fortifications rehab, artifact preservation, and water quality checks. The program started in 1970 as a pilot and became permanent in 1974, employing ages 15 to 18 from diverse backgrounds. Project manager is Robert Davidson with camp director Victoria Weitzel, as staff prepares facilities and later closes camp.

Two Year Old Injured In Auto Crash

A two year old, Pamela Rinehart, was injured in a four vehicle crash on Rs 194 at Kingsdale at 7 10 Friday evening. She was treated at Warner Hospital after a trip in Littlestown Fire Co ambulance. The child rode in a truck driven by father Dennis R Rinehart, which collided with a southbound sedan driven by Steven W Clingan. Clingan’s car struck Prohopitish’s vehicle from Washington DC, causing damage totals of 300 to Clingan 300 to Rinehart and etc. No one was hurt in a separate 2900 crash on Main St Biglerville at 2 pm Friday. Charles J Palmer 18 Carlisle turned left into a southbound car driven by Robert Stellwell 41 Warminster PA causing 1400 and 1500 in damages respectively. Damage totaled 225 in a two car crash at Legislative Routes intersection.

Hershey Fur Case Dismissed Over Fur Transfer Dispute

Judge MacPhail dismissed the case brought by Jack Lichtenstein against Q Baird Hershey Jr alleging misappropriation of furs from Hershey Fur Center. The transfer followed negotiations, Hershey Jr acted as his own agent, and no irreparable harm was shown.

Canonization Sunday for Bishop Neumann active in Adams County in 1850s

Bishop John Neumann known for confirming 2468 locals and signing church records will be canonized on Sunday. Masses across Adams County mark the event, including St Francis Xavier at 10 30 and St Aloysius Littlestown at 9 30. Neumann helped found four local churches and brought Sisters of St Joseph to McSherrystown.

Gettysburg borough reported 285000 spent and 225372.97 outstanding in five months of 1976 77 with a December 31 1976 balance of 72037.55 and June 1 cash of 68406.38 Income included 180219.33 real estate taxes 25942.11 parking meter revenue 19875 federal revenue sharing and 10860.25 from Mayor Lightner for licenses and fines. Expenditures covered police and fire 68821.92 street maintenance 64306.55 general government 38306.14 recreation 38644.39 health 31024.16 and other or non operating costs including transferring 36000 into certificates of deposit. May receipts were 117760.18 with 79719.69 taxes 7238.66 parking revenue and 2765 from the Mayor. Prohibiting Right Turns On Red In Adams County

Adams County municipalities plan to ban right turns on red at most traffic lights under a state code change. Gettysburg will post no right turn on red signs at 9 of 11 borough signals by July 1, with two signals unchanged. Littlestown may delay until state guidance arrives. costs run around 315 per sign. McSherrystown is drafting a ban resolution. law takes effect in August.

Free Kids Movie Project By Gettysburg Merchants

The Gettysburg Area Retail Merchants Association and Majestic Theatre will host free children’s matinees every Wednesday at 10 a.m. starting June 29 at the Majestic on Carlisle Street. Kenneth B. Deardorff, director of Adams County Domestic Relations, won approval Friday for a radio transmitter receiver for his car to link to the PennDOT computer in Harrisburg. He cited 130 statements issued, 67 returned as addressee unknown, and 885 cases still pending as of May 31. Other actions included Schmidt’s resignation as dispatcher, Irvin promoted to full-time dispatcher, withdrawal of a tax collector candidate after her death, and Latimore Two’s fuel funds approval.

Cherries On Mart Today at Farmers Market

Sour cherries and raspberries were new items this morning with cherries at 73 cents a quart, strawberries 5 dollars a box, green peas 54 cents a box, and lettuce 34 cents a head. Apple products included dried apples, apple butter 65 cents a pint, and cider 1.35 a gallon. Eggs ranged from 63 to 65 cents a dozen, and flower plants sold for 10 to 25 cents each.

The Geuysburg Department of Recreation announces a full summer slate from tennis to music for all ages. Open daily 9 am to 4 pm at Eisenhower and Recreation Park playgrounds with multiple supervisors, plus tot lots at Meade, Gettys, and Keefauver Schools. Adams County Dairy Princess pageant set for June 25

Adams County will hold its 1st annual Dairy Princess contest next Saturday June 25 at 3 p.m. at Biglerville High School Main Street Biglerville. Reigning princess Maryann Klinger will crown her successor with Dawn Bodenberg as committee chair. Four county dairy farmers daughters entered: Lita McGough Katfi sa Murren Nancy Reinhart and Debbie Sprague. Master of ceremonies will be Atty. Jan Wiley.
