No Migrants Get Welfare, Official States

S J Monfort director of Adams County Public Assistance said no migrant laborers receive welfare funds. He cited a diligent records search showing not a single migrant on public assistance and urged reports if any case is found. He noted crew leaders are responsible for workers and referenced a disputed remark by Ronald Kump.

More Adams Countians Are Going Abroad

Adams countians are going abroad in record numbers this year as passport records in the prothonotary's office show 265 applications in the first five months, up from 218 in the same period last year. January is the big month with 105 applications in 1970, after 78 in 1969, with monthly totals for 1969 listed as February 28 March 30 April 48 May 34 June 21 July 21 August 18 September 8 October

Adams County Study Meet on Water Quality at Rock Creek

Adams County Rural Development Committee will meet Tuesday at 9 AM in the Adams Electric Cooperative conference room rear of N Stratton Street. Mrs. Victoria Weitzel of Gettysburg High School will report on Water Quality in Rock Creek based on student and teacher studies. Philip Scott of the state Health Department will present an updated Sewage Facilities Act report. Wayne Kump serves as commission secretary.

Growers To Combine Two Apple Groups

Adams County fruit growers plan to vote on consolidating the National Apple Institute with the International Apple Association at Niagara Falls Ontario. The merged body will form the International Apple Institute with its first annual meeting to begin Tuesday. Attending Adams County growers include M. E. Enoure John B. Peters William M. Lott and Arthur E. Rice as co hosts Western New York Apple Growers Association and Ontario Apple Marketing Commission. Topics include labor finance pesticides world trade and organizational needs plus the 1970 apple harvest guestimate.

Alcoa Grants Gettysburg College $1250

Gettysburg College received a grant of 1250 from the Alcoa Foundation. Robert M. Phillips of Alcoa Lancaster Works presented the check to Dr. C. Arnold Hanson, president of the college. Phillips praised independent colleges for strengthening national education and noted additional support to the Foundation for Independent Colleges.

Rogers Hospitalized for Nerve Tests at Coatesville

Stanley C. Rogers, longtime Black Walnut Boy Scout District executive and Valley Forge area scout, has been admitted to Veterans Administration Hospital at Coatesville for tests on nerve destruction in his legs. He expects to remain for about a week in Building 59.

John Wildasin of Hanover Pennsylvania landed his two engine plane at North Bay Ontario after a wing tip tore off during takeoff from Moffet Quebec because the landing strip was too short. He was flying two passengers from a fishing trip back to Hanover. their identities were not released.

Injured In Route 94 Auto Crash Near York Springs

Two Maryland residents including an eight year old girl were injured when their car was forced off Route 94 by oncoming traffic two miles south of York Springs. The eight year old Marcia J Osborn of Bel Air suffered a fractured left leg. Thelma May Reilly of Baltimore had a fractured right shoulder and leg contusions. Mark Osborn, 12, was examined at Hanover Hospital.

Young GOP Unit Grants Scholarship to Local Graduate

Joseph Golani son of Mr and Mrs Jakob Golani of 153 Hanover St received a 50 dollar scholastic award at the County Young Republicans dinner at Glenns Diner Buford Ave. Presented by Betty H Pitzer club vice chairwoman. Golant will attend Muhlenburg College in Allentown majoring in political science. He was an honor student at Gettysburg High School and served on the school newspaper and yearbook staffs.
