Local parents heard that prevention, intervention and treatment are key to solving drug problems. Speakers urged home discussion, factual information at an age appropriate level, school curricula, and parental assertiveness as crucial tools to deter youth drug use.
Bermudian Springs School Board unanimously approved the 1982-83 budget totaling 1,713,450 in local revenue with a 58 mill real estate tax marking a three mill increase from 1981-82. The plan also imposes Act 679 and Act 511 per capita taxes, a 5 percent earned income tax, 0.5 percent real estate transfer tax, a 3.2 percent payroll tax, and a 5 percent amusement tax.
Adams County Commissioners awarded four contracts for repairs to the old courthouse with McDonnell Construction of Gettysburg the low bidder for general work at 141232 dollars. Mt Pleasant Township supervisors join Mt Joy and Strahan to authorize Lake Heritage Municipal Authority to seek state and federal funds for the Lake Heritage Sewage system. The plan limits township financial risk, with potential local costs around 3600 if the project fails, and planning costs totaling about 28000.
