Gettysburg plans residential parking permit pilot program

Gettysburg borough residents face a July deadline as the parking committee discusses a resident permit program on West Broad, West Broadway, East Broadway, N Washington, Mummasburg, Lincoln, Water and Carlisle streets. Prices proposed run 20 to 25 dollars with six month trials possible for other blocks if successful.

Zoning rule change bid shocks Adams County group

Marguerite Kurth of the Adams County League of Women Voters said she was shocked by attempts to alter the interchange zoning ordinance. She urged citizens to back the county plan, noting the Battelle study underpins current zoning and criticizing changes as repeated “human nature.”

Huntington approves flat building permit fees township wide

Huntington Township supervisors adopt a new permit rule charging a flat 10 dollar fee plus two cents per square foot for any building in the township from sheds to houses. The change ends the prior percentage based pricing. Some residents complained of high fees and reviews will continue at next month’s meeting.

Water study targets Keystone landfill site

A federal state pilot program aims to improve surface and groundwater in the Monocacy River watershed beginning at a 500 acre Frederick County farm. It targets the Piney Alloway creek area near the Maryland border and will involve three sub watersheds and 10 farms with conservation methods. The project, first of eight nationwide demonstrations, costs 1.1 million and seeks a 20 percent pesticide reduction while sharing technology with farmers and officials. Also, Make-A-Wish chapter in Adams Hanover Franklin receives 3000 plus from local bar owners’ softball fundraiser.
