Lake Heritage Unit Considers Regional Sewage Plant Plans
Supervisors from Straban Mt Joy and Mt Pleasant Townships met Wednesday at the Lake Heritage Restaurant complex to discuss the Rock Creek Drainage Basin regional treatment plant planned for Mt Joy Two. County Planner Callenbach said the group reached a general agreement on the planning phase and may update a prior feasibility study as part of an overall study. A June 26 Steering Committee meeting, possibly with DER official James Donato, will push the Lake Heritage Authority and participating townships toward a regional plant study.

Straban supervisors held a brief meeting at the secretary treasurer Arthur Weaner’s home then planned a special joint session with Mt. Joy and Mt. Pleasant supervisors and the Lake Heritage Municipal Authority to discuss a proposed regional sewage treatment plant at Rock Creek and Littles Run. A Gettysburg Retail Merchant’s Association letter lauded the Gettysburg Area Council of Governments and urged cooperation across fire protection recreation water land sewage zoning and planning to tackle regional needs. The May magistrate report showed 320 dollars in township fines for 41 violations during May.

The Easter Seal Society of Adams County named Cathy J. Jones as executive director at its regular meeting. Jones, a 1972 Gettysburg College graduate, has served as executive secretary since last October and is the first to hold the post locally. The board approved three summer programs including a summer speech program directed by Mrs. Rebecca B. Hill, with assistants Constance Smith and Susan Steinour. The disability-focused camp program will run on a limited basis under Dr. Bruce Packard, with Steinour assisting, and funds were allocated to sponsor two Adams County residents to one of the society’s summer camps.

District Magistrate Eugene Long dismissed charges against Cecil Sandoe owner of Distelfink Oven Harrisburg Rd for allegedly selling adulterated bread after a March 2 inspection. The case hinged on whether ants in bread met the legal definition of adulteration. Eight-Year-Old Riders Injured In Field Crash
Two eight-year-old cousins suffer injuries in a head-on trail bike collision two miles north of Biglerville. Michael Dubbs remains in satisfactory condition in Warner Hospital ICU with head and back injuries, while cousin Anthony Bosserman has multiple injuries and was later released. Borough police reported an accident at 10:45 AM involving James L. Siegrist, 73, of Clermont California, who tried to back his 1973 Dodge into Race Horse Alley from behind 352 York Street. His car hit Geraldine Dougherty, 56, of Gettysburg, causing $250 damage to Dougherty’s 1972 Ford and $50 to Siegrist’s Dodge.

101-year-old resident suffers broken hip at Green Acres
Mrs Susan B Neidick age 101, to be 102 on July 5, broke her hip yesterday after a fall in her room at Green Acres and was admitted to Warner Hospital. Self defense cited as reason in stab case dismissals
Crimnal Investigator Spi. Rus Sel Poller of Gallysburg Borough pressed charges of assault with intent to dull aggravated assault and assault and battery against Mary L. Mauston over a stabbing at 23 Breckerridge Street. Magistrate Eugene Long ruled the charges dismissed as self defense after testimony from David L. Sellers that he was the aggressor. Both had been drinking. Sellers had a quarter bottle of Corby's whiskey prior to the stabbing. Sellers said he started the argument. Mauston testified she was driven against a wall and stabbed him with a four-inch knife to escape. Mauston was arrested at 3:05 a.m. June 5, jailed in View County prison on $2,500 bail, later reduced to $1 and released.
