Storm Tray Electrically Induced Fires Across York County
An electrical storm Wednesday night caused two fires and power cuts in upper community homes. A chicken house in Bigtierville owned by Joseph Catchings burned with about 500 dollars in damages. A lightning strike in York Springs hit a pine tree near Raymond Hamilton start woods fire covering about an acre. A Horace Smith home on Route 15 saw a ball of fire sweep the floor but little damage. Two injuries reported. roofs of eight buildings blown off and five cars damaged as high winds and hail struck the York area causing power and phone outages. Ten minutes of hail damaged crops in parts of York County.

Lt. J. Henry Hershey is named executive officer of Company A, 313th Infantry Regiment, U S Army Reserve. He began as an enlisted man in August 1948, trained at Fort Dix and Fort Bliss, later served in the 69th AAA Gun Unit and 68th AAA Battalion, and was commissioned after attending the Anti Aircraft Artillery Officers Candidate School at Fort Bliss. He graduated Roanoke College in 1956 and co-owns Hershey's men’s store in Gettysburg with his father.

Reserve Unit Goes On Two-Week Summer Camp
Lt Lester C. Kiehl announced the local U S Army Reserve Unit will depart from the Reserve Center in the American Legion building Saturday at 6 30 AM by bus for Indian Town Gap Military Reservation for the annual two week summer camp and return on June 30. The Reserve center will reopen July 1. Glenn C. Lemaster and Harold Dugan enlisted Tuesday night and join Company A 313th Infantry Regiment for the camp.

State and borough police solved about 50 burglaries and larcenies over several months with 12 juveniles and one adult arrested. Settlement Approved In Fatal Auto Crash Damage Suit
Adams County court approved a $10,530 settlement in a trespass action by Mrs. Patsarikas of Jamaica New York for herself and her two children after a crash half a mile north of Harrisburg road last July 16. The suit named Bessie Emanuel guardian of Dale Carter’s estate. Carter died at the scene and his vehicle struck the Patsarikas family en route home from Gettysburg. The awards include $1,189 for Paul Patsarikas and $2,757.66 for Mary Patsarikas with guardianship held by Gettysburg National Bank for the children. Medical bills totaled over $1,000 for Paul and $1,257.66 for Mary, already paid.
