Fire Destroys Carroll Redding Barn Near Gettysburg
An explosion from a farm tractor on a barn bridge ignited a blaze that leveled a 40 by 80 foot barn on the Carroll Redding farm off Table Rock Road four miles north of town. About 30 firefighters battled the fire for 45 minutes as 50 tons of hay and 20 to 25 tons of straw, plus a tractor, wagon elevator, and windmill water system, were lost. No animals died. The elder Redding and sons Riley Timothy Dave and son-in-law Donald Biggins were harvesting hay when the tractor exploded and fire broke out.

House votes down Senate budget plan in 106 to 72 decision

Three Injured In Accidents Involving Car and Truck
State police investigated morning traffic incidents injuring three people. Phyllis Omer 18 of Bendersville sustained head and chin injuries after a 1150 dollar car truck collision on Route 34 two miles north of Biglerville. Charles McCrae 62 of Chambersburg R 6 had neck and head injuries. both were transported by Biglerville Fire Company ambulance to Warner Hospital.

Firemen Drag Stolen Auto From Quarry
Volunteer firemen from four area companies recovered a stolen 1971 Plymouth Sebring coupe from 45 feet of water at Fairfield Quarry. Police seek the suspects who stole it from the Blue Duck Inn near Emmitsburg and pushed it into the limestone quarry owned by Harry T. Campbell Co. Divers located the car in 30 feet of water about 50 feet from the north bank. a crane hauled it to the surface. The theft was reported after the vehicle disappeared from the Blue Duck parking lot at 12 45 a.m. Monday. An anonymous tip led Maryland State Police to check the quarry. Forty volunteers assisted in the recovery operation.
