Budget cuts dominate Littlestown school meeting faces budget debate

More than 100 residents filled the Maple Avenue Middle School auditorium for the Littlestown Finance Committee hearing. Citizens pressed against tax increases, urged austere budgets, and called for salary freezes while questioning administrative costs and in service training expenditures in comparison with Gettysburg.

Christmas decor scarce in Gettysburg this Christmas

Robert Weiland of the Gettysburg Retail Merchants Association told the Community Relations Committee that Lincoln Square will have few decorations this season after the April 16 fire at the Gettysburg Item Co. building. The association expects full insurance payout of 10 000 dollars for the damaged figures and nativity scene, which will take up to a year to replace.

Two Taneytown Teens Die In Carroll County Jeep Crash

Two Taneytown teenagers Christina Glass 19 and Wayne Neiderer 17 are dead after a jeep veered off Route 194 near Keymar Maryland. Passenger Robert Carroll 17 is in critical condition at University of Maryland Hospital. Police seek cause as investigation continues. Glass was a Gettysburg native and Havilah Inn waitress. Neiderer was also a Gettysburg native. Funeral arrangements were announced with services at Skiles Funeral Home and St Joseph Cemetery in Taneytown.

Gettysburg Park Visitors Decline From 1981 Levels

The National Park Service reports a drop in visitors to Gettysburg National Military Park and Eisenhower National Historic Site in 1982. May totals show 159 141 at Gettysburg and 15 625 at Eisenhower, with year to date declines of about 41 percent and 31 percent respectively. Local and group visitors influence patterns as summer expected, with more regional travel anticipated.
