The 90th annual Sunday school convention for Adams County will be held at York Springs Lutheran Church on June 19. The theme is The Impact of the Christian Home Upon Community Life. Dr. Bertha Paulssen of Gettysburg Theological Seminary will speak in the afternoon and Dr. William Mather of Pennsylvania State College School of Agriculture will address the evening session. Chicago June 11 A crowded court docket may push back by a year the federal trial of Preston T. Tucker and seven business associates on 31 counts of mail fraud five SEC violation counts and one conspiracy count tied to a rear engine automobile. The grand jury noted a decline from a 26 million high to a 130 thousand cash balance at end of 1948. Tucker claimed assets of 14 million and debts of 1.6 million and blamed “wrecking tactics” by the SEC while promising Senate scrutiny.

Cherry Crop Prompts Large Need For Pickers in July
The Pennsylvania State Employment Service at 20 Baltimore Street issued an appeal for cherry pickers as the crop is expected to be three times larger than last year. Edger A. Crouse said hundreds of pickers will be needed from July 5, with 3,000 workers last year and transportation provided. School children aged ten and older, new workers and women are urged to register immediately and await further reporting details. Pricing for cherry pickers has not yet been fixed.

Today's Farmers Market opened with the first sweet cherries, Carnation and Bing varieties selling at 40 to 45 cents a quart, larger Bings higher. Eggs rose again to 60 to 62 cents a dozen, lettuce five to ten cents, and rhubarb 15 cents a bunch.
