Lincoln Intermedi ate Unit No 12 finalizes a special education budget of 3,981,563 with a transportation allotment of 281,975 for 1973 74. The projected special ed budget rises about 1 million from 2,979,517 last year as LIU plans expanded programs for roughly 4,520 students served by about 180 teachers.
Central Pennsylvania Lutheran Church Women plan a two day convention at Gettysburg College on Friday and Saturday June 15 16 with theme Christ Is The Key. President Mrs William H Snyder will lead sessions joined by Mrs Clarence Van Loo and Dr Howard J McCarney who will address sacraments and growing in Christ. Delegates from affiliated congregations attend with election of treasurer and six unit board members plus delegates to the 1974 Kansas City triennial convention.

Rev. Charles Held, 82, died Tuesday morning in Chagrin Falls Ohio. Funeral services are set for Friday at 2 p.m. at Monahan Funeral Home with Rev. Carl Berkobin officiating. Interment follows at Mt. Joy Lutheran Church Cemetery on Taneytown Road. Friends may call Thursday evening. Memorials may be given to Gettysburg College Library or Adams County Heart Fund.
Three representatives from the local AAUW branch spoke at the second statewide hearing of the Citizens Commission on Basic Education in Harrisburg. Elaine Jones, Mary Celio, and Joyce Shutt urged flexible and personalized instruction, non graded classrooms, strong school nurses, and full nursing duties, while opposing replacing nurses with a first aid person. The committee will consider all testimony for the final September report to the governor, general assembly, and public.
More than 1,000 Civil War buffs in period uniforms will join reenactments and activities around Gettysburg over the July 4 weekend. Walter B. Lane told the Gettysburg Travel Council plans include a 2 p.m. July 4 reenactment at Little Round Top farm, encampment on Taneytown Road, and photos for tourists. The schedule covers July 5 contests, a July 6 Blue and Gray ball, and a downtown parade finale on July 7 with units marching through the city.
Sixty sixth graders at Franklin Townships Elementary School Cashtown were graduated today in the school auditorium at 1 o clock. Principal Hobart E Benchoff presented students for awards from mine organizations. Virginia Tech welcomed parents and friends. Dr Edgar Ziegger Trinity Lutheran Church pastor was guest speaker. The Rev Douglas Y Boden gave the invocation. Special music by Fifth Grade band. A reception in the school cafeteria followed. Certificates presented by Mrs Marie Kuhn and Robert Bonebrake. Awards listed include John Elwood Chapman to Janet Dillon and Robert C Mackley to Pamela Keller and Richard Beamer. Mary Margaret Hammann and David Pritt received American Legion Award. Cashtown Lions Club awards to Paul Baker and Mary Heflin. DAR and other acknowledgments to Janet Dillon Pamela Keller Jean Miller. Music awards to Diana McKee Kathy Griggs Pamela Keller Kimberly Nett.

Keefer of 304 Lincolnway West New Oxford dies May 21 and names Gettysburg National Bank as executor of a property over 25 thousand dollars with all personal items to widow Eleanor L. Keefer and remainder in trust to her. Mae K. Hartman of 93 Liberty Nr dies August 1 1972 with 105 thousand dollars property. Richard K. Hartman and Fred B. Hartman named executors and heirs, probate in Sullivan County N Y and entered here with local records.
Stocks opened higher in New York then mixed and moved downward. Analysts said early gains continued a Tuesday rally following five days of declines but volume stayed low and there was no lasting positive economic news to sustain it.

Dr Carey Moore of Gettysburg College spoke to Adams County Historical Society at Lower Marsh Creek Presbyterian. He presented findings from church records cemeteries and ads comparing 19th and early 20th century funerary practices noting high infant mortality and deaths from cholera yellow fever and diphtheria. He plans to join tomb excavations in Israel and cited Evergreen Cemetery cases.
President Nixon announced a major staff rebuilding. Gen Alexander M Haig Jr will retire from active duty but stay as White House chief of staff. Melvin R Laird becomes counselor to the President for domestic affairs. Ronald L Ziegler remains press secretary with added title assistant to the President and a policy role.
High school graduates and other job seekers in nine counties of south central Pennsylvania will test the new job bank computer system via the self-service placement directory. The state employment office will hold special Thursday registrations from 2 to 4 pm for the next six weeks to enable immediate personal interviews with prospective employers.
Former campaign treasurer Hugh W. Sloan Jr. testified that he tried to alert the White House shortly after the Watergate burglary that the affair posed a tremedous problem for Nixon's political operation but was ignored. He also said he told prosecutors and a grand jury last July that another Nixon official suggested he might have perjured himself and that Jeb Magruder urged concealment of $199000 in cash. In London, the dollar rose from a weeklong decline and gold eased on European markets as traders remained cautious about future monetary trends. Engman promised FTC petroleum investigations would wrap up no later than July 1 in a letter to Sen. Jackson.
Biglerville Borough Council authorized its engineers to prepare bid specifications for TV inspection of the sewer system, raised the connection fee to 225 dollars, and set a six inch pipe for house connections. Phase two of sewer infiltration work will start after bids are received, with about 10 thousand dollars planned and funded by Revenue Sharing. The move follows a prior 5 thousand dollar TV inspection, with a no vote on the six inch pipe rule.
Preston W. Singley of 252 East Middle Street has been transferred from Warner Hospital to the Newton J. Baker VA Hospital in Martinsburg West Virginia, where he is expected to remain for several weeks while recovering from a slight stroke.

They finalized Chester Chapman’s bid of 72 1000 for a 77 foot Bupps Mill bridge over Bermudian Creek on T R 627.
