Elementary Concert In Gettysburg Area Schools Thursday

The Gettysburg Area combined elementary bands present a major concert at 7 P.M. in Keefeurs School auditorium. Duane Butterbush directs the inner Orchestra with Billy Feeder at the Franklin Eats stage. Seventeen musicians, including the Serene Quartet and the Keefeuver Violin Duo, perform under Butterbush and director Robert Gon with admission open to all.

May Weather Sets Records for Warm Dry Month

May brought the warmest temperatures since 1970 and the driest since 1964 in the region. The average daily temperature was 62.7 degrees, with a high of 90 and a low of 37 on May 9, and only 0.82 inches of rain across four rain days.

Gettysburg Area School board selects new executive for district

The Gettysburg Area School Board appointed Dr William J Gauthier Jr as assistant superintendent for instruction for a three year term starting July 1 with a salary of 25000 annually He comes from Bucknell University where he is assistant lecturer and director of instructional media He holds a doctorate from the University of Connecticut His duties include curriculum instruction and long range responsibilities previously held by Richard Folkenroth who retires as administrative assistant and director of elementary education He will also take on some duties with Mrs Gauthier moving to the area The board also approved a 15000 improvement project for M L Haldeman and Son Inc as general contractor for the high school project and authorized shortening the school year by five days if state legislation is signed by the governor today The district plans a June 17 closing with potential extension to June 22 if House Bill 446 is signed Sources expect gubernatorial approval

Bendersville council orders water use restrictions

At a Tuesday meeting the Bendersville council banned car washing lawn irrigation and swimming water use until further notice. Officials say several weeks of rain are needed to raise the supply above average for this time of year. Robert Kime and the water superintendent discussed the action.

The first day of June brought measurable rain at The Gettysburg Times weather station, totaling three hundredths of an inch by 8:30 AM. The last measurable rain occurred May 19, at a quarter inch, and May’s total was under an inch.

Bank Sponsors Bermudian Springs Concert by Stage Band

The Gettysburg National Bank will sponsor a concert by the Bermudian Springs Senior High School Stage Band directed by William J. Hevel. The 18 musician group, recently awarded a superior at the Littlestown Jazz Festival, plays from the Big Band era to modern jazz. Adams County Personal Property Tax Record Sees Record Total

Adams County reports personal property tax reach 26.36 million dollars, setting a new record. Gettysburg residents face 40 14189 in taxes while Cumberland Two and other towns contribute shares. Columbia Gas of Pennsylvania says curtailment levels for the 1977 78 winter starting Nov 1 will be lower than last year. Notification goes to 185 large volume industrial and 604 commercial users over 1 million cubic feet monthly. Stolen truck recovered after quarry plunge into water

Police, aided by divers Howie Kessel and Jeff Robbins, recovered a stolen truck from quarry waters southeast of Fairfield. The salvage operation involved a crane, two firefighting crews, and six hours of work to move the vehicle about 400 feet from beneath a 75 foot cliff. The truck and contents valued around 7.00 were traced to Don Lee Hobday of CB Equipment Co Fort Ritchie.

Funeral services for Rev Dr Harold L Myers 74 who died Friday at Warmer Hospital were held this afternoon from the Gettysburg Foursquare. Ministers Ronald Powers Roy Baldergon Elsie Shyrock led the service. Interment followed at Garden of Sempres in Gettysburg. New York AP report says Ben Grauer a pioneer NBC announcer died Tuesday in his sleep after a heart attack. He would have been 69 on Thursday and had been treated at New York University Medical Center for heart disease before his death.
