Increasing clouds and warm Thursday with a high in the mid 80s and a northeast wind around 10 mph. Tonight a 70 percent chance of showers and a possible thunderstorm with a low near 70. Friday showers end early with a high in the upper 70s and an 80 percent early rain chance.
The Rev Al Sharpton and two Tawana Brawley advisers were ordered to pay 345000 for defaming former prosecutor Steven Pagones who alleged rape of the teenager in 1987. The eight month trial centered on 22 statements and 10 more deemed defamatory. Pagones sought 395 million and later 150 million in damages.
Adams County officials see no changes to the four year old courthouse security system despite a deadly shooting in Washington and a former teacher who wounded himself with two scalpel blades in court. Two independent reviews by District Attorney Michael George and Detective Matthew O Brien found the system performed as intended and kept the building safe.
A 160 foot long steel tank and escort rig crawled through Hanover on a route from Montreal to Baltimore. Adams County officials announced that the county home will now be called Green Acres Adams County Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center. Patricia Konhaus said the new name, chosen by a marketing committee, better describes their mission to care for county residents and offer respite care while admitting anyone in need. She noted staff training and community outreach as priorities. Additionally a housing needs committee was formed to advise on fund disbursement from county grants with an estimated annual total of 280 900 to 0000. Members named include Rod McConkey Tom John Larry Wekert Dick Selby Ronald Grim Kathleen Nelson Small the Rev Frederck Foliz Catherine Cresswell and Christine Eckert.
Hanover area resident Jennifer Maitland Holland said Wednesday she has not committed 250,000 for a Littlestown skating park and no formal agreement exists with the Littlestown YMCA. She noted only discussions have occurred and she might change her mind. YMCA officials plan a meeting Monday to discuss the issue as council weighs a safety ordinance limiting skating and bicycling near the square.
