Adams County Prison officials say work release has inherent risks as inmates occasionally fail to return. Three prisoners missed return this month, bringing total violations to five for the year. Deputy Warden James Caskey and Warden Edwin Stahl say escapes arise from spur of the moment choices and that penalties remain severe when violations occur.
Vietnam era veterans and families in Adams Franklin and Fulton counties gain free psychological services under a three year grant. Dr James Nutter, licensed psychologist, will provide counseling from marital issues to family support for veterans who served 1964 to 1975.
Fairfield Area High School, in partnership with the McSherrystown Fish and Game Association and the Pennsylvania Fish Commission, operates a trout nursery. The program raises about 4,000 palomino rainbow rainbow brown speckled and brook trout annually for release into Toms Creek and Middle Creek with student caretakers feeding and transporting fish and maintaining the nursery’s oxygen rich water system.
The Historical Architectural Review Board approved razing the three story Columbian building next to the GC Murphy Store on Baltimore Street with the condition that surrounding walls be surfaced. The plan moves to Gettysburg Borough Council for final approval. Mack Realty would demolish the structure and seed the foundation.
