Fire crews battle second barn blaze near Cashtown

Cashtown and Arendtsville firefighters responded again around 4 30 a m Wednesday to extinguish a second barn fire four miles east of Cashtown after an earlier blaze. The scene was hot and humid with fog and smoke, while residents preferred not to be in Philadelphia.

Prison officials weigh plans to curb work release escapes

Adams County Prison officials say work release has inherent risks as inmates occasionally fail to return. Three prisoners missed return this month, bringing total violations to five for the year. Veterans psychology services expanded in tri county area

Fairfield High School runs trout nursery with 4000 yearly stock

Fairfield Area High School, in partnership with the McSherrystown Fish and Game Association and the Pennsylvania Fish Commission, operates a trout nursery. The program raises about 4,000 palomino rainbow rainbow brown speckled and brook trout annually for release into Toms Creek and Middle Creek with student caretakers feeding and transporting fish and maintaining the nursery’s oxygen rich water system.

Raze plan for Columbian building gains HARB approval

The Historical Architectural Review Board approved razing the three story Columbian building next to the GC Murphy Store on Baltimore Street with the condition that surrounding walls be surfaced. The plan moves to Gettysburg Borough Council for final approval. Mack Realty would demolish the structure and seed the foundation.
