Partly cloudy conditions with highs in the mid 80s and light southwest winds. Tonight remains partly cloudy with a mid 60s low. Tuesday continues partly cloudy with afternoon highs again in the mid 80s.
Hundreds report air bags deploying without crashes. GM recalls nearly 1 million cars. Federal safety agency probes 1.6 million Chrysler Mazda Subaru Mitsubishi vehicles for inadvertent inflation. Most affected are Chrysler minivans and cars. Three quarters tied to Chrysler. Deaths blamed on air bags since 1996, many children.
A Friday afternoon crash on Stoney Point Road in Reading Township killed Genevieve Meckley of East Berlin and seriously injured two men after a deer darted into the path of a northbound Cadillac. Carl Meckley and passenger Genevieve Meckley were in the southbound vehicle. Genevieve Meckley died at the scene. Carl Meckley survived. George Porter of Oakton, Va., was hurt and in critical condition. The deer died later. Police and multiple emergency crews assisted at the scene.
A calm Hanover Saturday celebrated volunteers who organized a community festival with grilled foods and crafts. Local officials highlighted a 36 million spending bill to repair roads around Hanover as residents enjoyed a band concert and Dutch polkas in the square after a near disaster fire on Baltimore Street.
Cumberland Township advances a comprehensive plan update to map housing, transport, and land use for the next 10 to 15 years. Norman Day Associates, a township task force, and officials study trends to guide day-to-day decisions, with a public session set for August 5.
