The period ending Sunday saw highs around 92 degrees with no precipitation. Saturday recorded a high of 88 and a low of 38, with 5 p.m. temps at 86. Monday promises mostly sunny skies with a late thundershower chance, highs in the upper 80s to low 90s, and southwest winds around 10 mph. Monday night brings partly cloudy skies and a thunder shower risk. Tuesday remains partly cloudy with a 30 percent rain chance late Monday into Monday night.

Washington attorney Barry C. Maroney pushes a College Mountain ski resort near Emmitsburg Maryland, seeking 135 acres of town land. Town council opposed within watershed due to water concerns though Water Resources Dept planners say proper slopes could avoid harm and possibly improve supply amid summer shortages.
County fire marshal John W. Murren notes fire calls through July 31 1982 rose about 100 percent from 1981. Deliberate fires and arson cases increased, especially in Gettysburg area. Some towns like Biglerville and Arendtsville saw no rise, while vehicle accident calls fell nearly 50 percent. Dry spell and gypsy moths raise future fire risk.
Gettysburg surgeon Dr. Gilbert C. McArdle completed a six-foot scale model of the frigate Constellation after seven years of work. The model was delivered to Baltimore for the restoration committee and will be featured at a four month maritime show opening at the World Trade Center in Inner Harbor. McArdle, the son of a retired merchant seaman, began boat carving as a boy and studied ship models after seeing plans for the Constitution and Constellation.
Gettysburg Borough officials cite vandalism at the Recreation Park as costly and pervasive. Over a 10 day summer period vandals damaged picnic tables broke a water line clogged fountains snapped saplings kicked in a park office door dumped waste in restrooms and ripped sinks from walls. Officials note most damage occurs quickly and that enhanced lighting surveillance and night watchmen may help but are not complete solutions.
