Adams County growers report a very mild winter and warm spring lifting peach harvests two to three weeks ahead of schedule. Hollabaugh Orchards owner Kay Hollabaugh notes varieties normally August ripen now, while Bream Orchards co owner Mark Bream says it is the earliest picking season yet. Despite a slight yield dip, fruit quality is higher with about 60 to 80 percent of a crop produced, following last year’s drought and an April frost that thinned some fruit.
A gunman burst through security at the Capitol Friday afternoon and killed two Capitol police officers, with a tourist wounded.
