East Berlin presents summer event lineup and radio promo

A York radio station WZIX will air five hours of interviews from East Berlin to promote six weeks of summer events. Medicine Man Forced To Take Show Off Road

David Baum and two associates faced a string of mishaps as their 19th century medicine show toured central Pennsylvania. A Clydesdale Belgium horse damaged the wagon, the original wagon horse was destroyed, and Baum was then called home for his grandmother's funeral. He says the team will take a break after more than 30 reenactments.

Maryland schoolteacher Robert Chance claims Bigfoot sightings in York and Harford Counties. He describes a seven to eight foot, two legged humanoid with dark hair, sharp head, and strong swimming, said to prey on fish and poultry. Chance cites 237 Pennsylvania sightings since the 1600s and recounts two near encounters, one on Muddy Creek in York County in 1972.

United Way Opens Advance Gift Campaign

The United Way launches an advance gift drive to raise 212,700 for 16 area agencies. L. Robert Lavder leads the effort with a committee announcing details soon. YACC Gives 100 Youths Solid Job Experience

Gettysburg National Military Park hosts YACC under the National Park Service. over 100 area youths aged 16 to 23, many previously unemployed, gain outdoor labor experience building stone walls and clearing landscapes. Start Bus Service To Park Farm

Gettysburg National Military Park begins a daily hourly shuttle from the Visitor Center to the Granite Farm with a 45 minute visit window. The service, contracted to Gettysburg Tours, Inc., runs 9:30 am to 3:30 pm and continues through Labor Day, then weekends in fall.

Fire damages Middletown furniture store and apartments

The Middletown blaze damaged Walters Furniture Inc and a two story section, with the structure collapsing. No injuries reported among residents above or in the store, though Wayne Smear lost everything after evacuating. Blessing noted the fire spread quickly but nearby buildings were spared.
