Carroll Valley youth wins poster contest grand prize

Dwaine Fank son of Donald and Mrs Fank of Carroll Valley captured the grand prize in Adams County United Way poster contest. He received a $251 savings bond. Judges were Mrs John Craig and Mrs John Oyler as the contest opened to all Adams County youths.

New Group Seeks Volunteers for Farmworkers Corp Board

Local residents and groups are invited to join the Farmworkers Corp Inc board by August 10. The private nonprofit funds from the U.S. Department of Labor aim to aid migrant and seasonal farmworkers through employment and training, with offices in Gettysburg and four Pennsylvania sites plus satellite offices.

Summer Recreation Program In Bonneauville Runs Daily

The Bonneauville summer recreation program for ages six to 12 operates 9 am to 3 pm Monday through Friday at the borough playground. Funded by the borough and CETA, it features softball volleyball bike hikes field trips and crafts led by Regina Gebhart and Pam Shanebrook with about 20 children daily.

Cigarette Triggers Taneytown House Fire

A fire near Taneytown on Baptist Rd and Rt 97 started from a discarded cigarette. Gilbert Bennett’s home was gutted a mattress fire spread to a second story. crews from Taneytown Harney Emmitsburg and Reese fought the blaze for about two and a half hours. Bennett found temporary lodging with friends afterward.

Six Persons Injured In Two Auto Accidents On County Roads

Over the weekend six people were injured in two county road crashes. Edward Dietz, 38, of Fairfield, is in guarded condition after a two car collision near the parrol tunnel under the Chester railroad on Iron Springs Road at 6 30 p m Dietz and his wife Martha 31 were in a 1983 Dodge coupe Barbara Sites 27 of Fairfield R 1 drove a 1971 Plymouth and suffered minor injuries. A second crash on Route 130 north of Littlestown involved three teens treated at Warner Hospital after a car flipped and rolled down an embankment. Police cited driver error and passing attempts as factors in both incidents.

Burglars Take Safe and Cigarettes from Kennie's Market

Professional thieves entered Rennies Market on S Main St Biglerville and removed a portable safe and a large quantity of cigarettes. The store and owners report a gray 1978 Ford van and a white 1973 Ford van used in the burglary. Police seek information on the incident and the vehicles involved.

Stone Chapter of the Beer Can Collectors Association convened at Reddings Auction where about 200 members swapped cans and discussed sought after post prohibition early brewers. Man Shot In Hip Near Emmitsburg

Thurmoni resident Richard Sanes Cool, 40, was treated for a hip gun shot wound at Warner Hospital after an altercation with Albert E Springer, 51, of Emmitsburg. Springer was charged with assault with intent to murder and assault and battery and released on bond after the Friday night shooting near Emmitsburg on Barspton Valley Road.
