Gloria M Harmon 75 of Gettysburg died July 8 in Gettysburg Hospital. Born April 2 1923 she was the daughter of the late Fred and Edna Kriembring. Survived by three daughters one son six grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Funeral Monday at 11 at Peters Funeral Home with burial in Gettysburg National Cemetery. Mildred E Sentz 81 formerly of Littlestown died July 9 in Gettysburg Hospital. Arrangements by Littles Funeral Home are incomplete.

Funerals for William L. Hurst and Hazel Lambert Held in Taneytown

Funeral services for William Leonard Hurst, 82, of Emmitsburg, were conducted July 8 at Skiles Funeral Home Taneytown, with Rev. Donnie Cardwell officiating. Interment followed at Keysville Union Cemetery. Pallbearers included grandsons and a nephew. Skiles Funeral Home handled arrangements. Hazel Elizabeth Hyser Lambert, 83, of Taneytown, died July 6 at home. Her service was July 9 at Messiah United Methodist Church with Rev. Laura Schultz officiating. Interment at Mount Pleasant United Methodist Cemetery. Pallbearers and a honorary bearer were noted. Skiles Funeral Home managed arrangements.

Court dismisses challenge to Pennsylvania school funding law

Commonwealth Court Judge Dan Pellegrini dismissed the seven year legal challenge by the Pennsylvania Association of Rural and Small Schools to the state funding formula. He found no proof that the subsidy distribution prevented a basic education in many districts. The decision leaves funding decisions to local boards and the General Assembly.

PUC orders new probe into Bell rate charges

Pothole closure shuts New Jersey Turnpike Bridge span

An 8 by 3 foot pothole on the Delaware River bridge forced the westbound lanes to close for about 10 hours. Repair crews peered to the river while the hole damaged tires and engineers deemed the bridge unsafe. The 42 year old span is undergoing partial deck replacement as a key east west corridor.
