Friday brought mostly sunny skies, 30 percent rain chance, and highs around the mid to upper 80s with Friday night lows 65 to 70. Saturday remained partly sunny with a 20 to 30 percent shower chance and 80s highs. Sunday into Monday projected partly cloudy with 80s to low 80s and 60s nights. The All-State Lions Band toured Gettysburg briefly, and local youth activities were announced for July and August outdoor expeditions. The paper also reports on forgery attempts against U.S. officials, Brezhnev warning over Lebanon, a Philadelphia teachers strike case, a railway labor act intervention to avert a rail freight strike, and local sports results including Littlestown loss to Brushtown 4-3.

Testimony Challenges Data Behind School Consolidation

Education policy professor Dr. Eugene P. McLoone testified before the Maryland State Board of Education that data used by the Frederick County Board of Education to consolidate Thurmont and Emmitsburg Middle Schools were inaccurate. He cited inconsistent enrollment figures and questioned moving Emmitsburg sixth to eighth graders based on transportation and cost concerns, noting figures ranged from 110 to 159 students in various documents.
