Two Die in Sunday Accident Near Abbottstown

Two Hanover men, Robert M. Reay 39 and William E. Rhodes Jr. 39, were killed when their 1977 Dodge van crossed the center line on Racetrack Road near Route 194, slamming into a tree shortly after 2 a.m. Police cite unknown cause and ongoing investigation. Santay plans to sue over mileage payout cutback

Hamilton Township Supervisor Chairman Stephen W. Jacobs says Police Chief Gregory Santay plans to sue after the board reduced his monthly mileage reimbursement from 3,000 miles to 1,500. The cut follows a claim of a reduced work schedule from about 60 to 40 hours weekly. no proof of mileage was provided.

Tennessee Memorial Dedication at Gettysburg Stirs Rainy Ceremony

The Tennessee monument at Gettysburg National Military Park was unveiled amid heavy rain that dampened speeches and flags. Major participants included Maj. Times expands coupon mailing plan for Adams County

The Gettysburg Times will mail its second 48 page coupon booklet in the first week of August. Edward G. Puhl, advertising manager, says 46,655 homes in Adams County Hanover Borough selected rural Hanover routes and parts of three neighboring counties will receive the booklet. A prior May 32 page Tires coupon covered about 26,000 Adams County addresses.

Gypsy moth control plans loom for 1983 in Adams County

State and local authorities map damage from this year’s gypsy moth infestation in Adams County. Large areas of defoliation on the west side could reach up to 20 000 acres. Officials plan to offer residential spraying again next year with funding shares and possible changes in federal reimbursement.

Meades forces defeated in Gettysburg re enactment

The Saturday reenactment at the Sheraton Inn Gettysburg staged a mock Battle of Gettysburg with about 60 Union participants and nearly 300 Confederate reenactors. Union artillery was one cannon versus four for the Confederates, and the simulated Confederate victory prompted talk of advancing toward Harrisburg Baltimore or Washington.
