Taylor medical witness OK'd By Adams County court

Adams County's chief judge ordered the county to pay for expert medical testimony for Jeanette Ruth Taylor. Dr. John Hume was approved as defense witness with fees not to exceed 500 dollars without further court approval. Taylor faces multiple charges from a 1989 assault and was found near death in a Middlesex Township Econo Lodge days before a scheduled trial.

Marcos Khashoggi cleared by jury in Philippines looting case

A New York jury acquitted Imelda Marcos on charges of looting 222 million dollars and found Adnan Khashoggi not guilty of helping conceal ownership of four New York buildings. The verdict came on Marcos's 61st birthday as supporters celebrated outside the U.S. District Court in Manhattan.

Eck tied to 1975 murder and weekend spree arrest

William Jay Eck, 32, of Lebanon, who in 1975 killed James Schauer and served six years, began a three day robbery and hostage taking spree last Thursday. He was captured Saturday in Monroe County after a pay phone trace. Observers note the June 30 arrest date mirrors the 15 year anniversary.

Hospital Bridge Club honors centenarian founder in Gettysburg

The Gettysburg Hospital Bridge Club paid tribute to its oldest living founder on June 28 as it nears its 75th anniversary. Mrs. Charles Smith, affectionately Aunt Jean, will celebrate her 100th birthday with a $2,000 donation to the Gettysburg Hospital. The club began between 1916 and 1918 and supported hospital efforts since early days, funding rooms and equipment while growing dues from 28 cents per meeting to 15 dollars annually.
