Adams County taxes fall, district ranks low nationwide
Robert E. Feir told Adams County Taxpayers Association that county school taxes declined with the state trend. He said Adams County districts mostly sit in the lower fifth for tax rates while 3.30 percent of personal income was spent on school taxes in 1980 81, down from 3.85 percent in 1976 77. He cited district rankings and discussed budgeting transparency and proposed state funding limits.

Weekend events mark the Declaration of Independence and the Battle of Gettysburg with fireworks and living history. The 8th Annual Gettysburg Civil War Collectors Show runs Friday through Sunday at the Sheraton Inn with speeches by J.E.B. Stuart expert Marshall Krolick and others. Saturday features photography talks, an appraisal of the Gettysburg Campaign, a living history encampment, a belated Kershaw attack reenactment, and two monument dedications at the Gettysburg National Military Park. Admission to the encampment is free with donations welcome. the parade rounds out Saturday night activities.

Officials seek aid to cover losses by Masons pilgrimage
Pennsylvanias Masons Patriotic Pilgrimage organizers in Gettysburg asked state lodge officials to reimburse civic groups who lost money on concession stands for visitors.
