Mount Joy group reviews waste station proposal in Harrisburg

Mount Joy Township residents opposed to a Rimiro Corporation waste transfer station met with seven state Department of Environmental Resources officials in Harrisburg for two hours to learn the permit review process. DER has completed initial administrative review. a public hearing and six months or more may precede action. Representatives discussed traffic, groundwater contamination, and community impact as they await further DER steps.

ROOTS rural reform package unveiled in Harrisburg

A bipartisan ROOTS plan to tackle rural Pennsylvania's problems was announced in the Capitol Media Center. Led by the Center for Rural Pennsylvania, the initiatives target rural education health care economic development and access to state programs. Bills are slated for March introduction with an initial eight million dollar year one cost and focus on college prep career counseling and attracting health professionals to rural areas.

Broujos to address a board meeting in Adams County

State Rep. John H. Broujos may speak at Adams County Agricultural Preservation Board’s first meeting set for Feb. 13 at 7 30 p m in Room 307 of the courthouse The nine member board was named at a regular session and is tied to Act 149 of 1988 to preserve prime farmland by buying development rights Funds include 1 5 million in state seed money and 3 million total for two years with John J Cortis coordinating the project Broujos’ attendance was being considered and a formal invitation will be sent to his office The board members listed include Thomas E Crowney David A Reinecker Timothy C Brown William J Oyler Katherine L Niven Russell C Redding Harold Greenlee Richard S Simpson and Stephen M Hoffman
