Courthouse renovation near in Gettysburg plan advances

Adams County moves to approve a plan to renovate the 1859 courthouse on Baltimore Street with interior restoration and new windows. The project, estimated between 270000 and 320000, includes heating and air conditioning, potential museum space, and may use federal funds and capital reserves. bids could go out soon with work possibly starting this spring and finishing by fall.

Government urges 15 percent cut in wheat rice and cotton acreage

Agriculture Secretary John Block announced a 15 percent reduction plan for wheat rice and cotton acres this year and a 10 percent cut for feed grains to cut stockpiles. He noted rising January prices but a farm price index well below 1980 levels and a parity ratio near historic lows. Block spoke in Kansas City after returning from Washington, saying feed grains would face smaller cuts due to producer resistance.

Bendersville eyes new post office in former plant site

Plans to convert part of the Ogden Decker plant on Carlisle Street into a post office move are in negotiation. Dr Charles Turner reports blueprints and bids are being reviewed, with a possible summer relocation if pricing aligns. Snow removal, tax commissions, and water system mapping were also discussed at the borough council meeting.
