East Berlin group studies moving historic Kuhn's Fording Bridge

East Berlin Historical Society votes to hire a private engineer to study placing Kuhn's Fording Bridge over Beaver Creek. They rejected county plans to relocate near Sweigart's Mill and seek agency approval, cost estimates, and possible funding. The committee rules out most options and favors a site near the mill with private funding.

Adams County Apple Queen Contest Set for April 7

The 27th Adams County Apple Queen Contest will be held at the Bendersville Elementary School auditorium at 7 30 p.m. April 7. Entries close March 27 and must meet age residency and fruit industry connections. The winner receives a crown, banner and $100. The queen promotes apples countywide and attends the National Apple Queen Contest in Gettysburg and state events in Hershey. Contacts include Tyson, Kuntz, Benner, Fetters, Lott, Starner, and Mrs Peters.

Town and Gown Award to be given at Gettysburg College

Gettysburg College will present the first annual Town and Gown Service Award during Community Night on campus. The event runs noon to 8 p.m. with exhibits from 27 Adams County organizations and a 8 p.m. basketball game against Moravian College. Robert Kenworthy, college chamber liaison, chairs the award committee. Dr. Charles E. Glassick will present the award. Roger Williams of Westinghouse speaks at the program.

Baker to address 19th District Club at Hotel Yorktowne

James A. Baker III chief of staff to President Reagan will speak to the 19th District Club at 7:30 this evening. A Houston native and Princeton graduate, Baker is a Maine Corps veteran and former Undersecretary of Commerce under Ford, later GOP nominee for Texas Attorney General, and served on George Bush’s campaign and Reagan-Bush committees.

Nurses of Hope program to name Adams County winner

Five nurses from Gettysburg and area compete Sunday at the Get tysburg Country Club for Adams County Nurse of Hope. Judge criteria include originality, speaking ability, and hopefulness in a two minute cancer talk amid musical entertainment by Kim Jacoby and Lou Fourier. The winner will be honored at the Nurse of Hope Ball February 20. tickets are $20 a couple through the Cancer Society office.
