Gettysburg Seminary selects Beekmann as 11th president
Gettysburg Lutheran Seminary officials announced Friday the selection of Southwestern Minnesota Synod Bishop Darold Beekmann as the seminary’s 11th president. Beekmann, 55, of Redwood Falls Minnesota, succeeds Rev. Dr. Herman G. Stuempffler who retired last July after 13 years. The appointment follows a year and a half international search conducted by 30 directors in Philadelphia. Beekmann will move with his wife Marlene to Gettysburg for the 1990 91 academic year. He has served as a bishop in rural southwestern Minnesota since 1979 and led through the ALC ELCA merger. He cited the seminary’s strong tradition and church commitment as reasons for the move.
