Gettysburg school board approves new bus stop near babysitter's home

Gettysburg school directors voted 7-2 to move a primary bus stop from 266 Hoffman Road to 240 Cavalry Field Road once Peggy Bear relocates. They said safety is the priority, not money, and rejected a request to drive a bus down Bear's private drive.

King Day referendum delayed as board awaits request

Gettysburg school board plans MLK Day closing referendum but has not yet sent the formal request to Adams County Commissioners or received solicitor opinion from Robert McQuaide. Commissioners said they oppose non binding ballots but will rule after a formal submission. Next board meeting is Feb. 5.

Littlestown Borough Accepts DEA Friendly Order on Sludge

Littlestown Borough council approved a DEA issued order allowing disposal of sewer sludge at a DEA approved landfill. The measure supersedes a governor's ban on landfill shipments and aims for interim use at Modern Landfill in York while a permanent plan is sought.

Two in Hospital After Route 394 Crash Fire

Two people were flown by helicopter to York Hospital after a fiery single vehicle crash on Hunterstown-Hampton Road also known as Pa Route 394 near New Chester eight miles northeast of Gettysburg. State police withheld names of the driver and passenger. the car apparently sped west over a hill, became airborne, then struck a large ground-implanted boulder.

Kidnapping Sentencing Set After Conviction

Ronald William Boyd faces sentencing Wednesday after a April 27 conviction in Adams County Court of Common Pleas for kidnapping restraint false imprisonment and simple assault. A charge of kidnapping was dropped due to a clerical error. Boyd on work release for Protection From Abuse led by Dorothy Ann Sholf allegedly forced her car off road on July 20 1983 and was captured 11 days later in Troge County. Defense motions seek dismissal due to a letter read in court from Boyd to his attorney found after a suicide attempt.
